Have you ever heard the saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks?” Well if you have maybe you could bend
Pastor Audrey and Eric’s ear a little. You see we dogs are old. Every single one of us is getting up there in years.
Each one of us has some aches and pains and each one of us can tell you that sometimes we get a little grouchy
about it. We long for the days we could chase a rabbit for more than twenty feet, or could stay awake long enough to
patiently keep a squirrel up in a tree long enough that said squirrel would actually try to come down. Those days are
over now and the three of us are beginning to master the art of lounging around the house testing our ability to rattle
the windows by snoring. Or should I say “were” mastering this art. Apparently Pastor Audrey and Eric are believers
that even in our twilight years we have purpose and they are entrusted to ensure we live into that purpose. URGH!
Just when we had the art of twenty hour a day naps down they are developing a plan to interrupt those naps and get
us moving!

The truth is I only complain half-heartedly. I am glad they don’t believe we are all washed up. I am glad they recognize
we still have life and we still have purpose. I am glad they value our love and affection enough to give us the attention
we need to still embrace life. And I know why they do it; it is because of the Creator. Their faith tells them that the God
of creation creates with a purpose and that purpose is only completed at death.

Pastor Audrey says God created for the purpose of relationship; relationship with each other and relationship with
God. Every person and thing is gifted to enhance and deepen the relationship. We glorify God when, through God’s
word, we use those gifts. I think what she is trying to say is you are never too young or too old to honor God by using
your gift. So quit thinking you are too old, too achy, too grouchy, and quit napping. Honor God and use your gifts!
Until next time … I will praise God my naps are interrupted!
